For my inaugural blog, I want to address an issue near and dear to my heart--protecting animals. As the proud parent of two rescue dogs (Dingo and Lily) and strong supporter of Pet Helpers, I was appalled to learn about proposed legislation that seeks to limit non-profit veterinary services in favor of protecting for-profit veterinarians. As Charleston Animal Society CEO Joe Elmore stated, "A vote to limit nonprofit services is a vote to euthanize thousands of animals that are currently being saved by animal shelters around the state. There is a lot of political maneuvering going on in Columbia to restrict nonprofit outreach like we and hundreds of other nonprofits provide to folks...This will end everything we've accomplished with No Kill Charleston." Whether you are a pet lover or not, you should be concerned about legislation that will lead to fewer pet adoptions and more euthanization. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated." Please follow this link to learn more about Bill S. 687 and to contact your senator:
